Some facts about me

  • I am 40 years old, and have three children aged 13, 10, and a new born. I work in Finance & HR as a Finance Director.
  • I have lived in Bedfordshire for over 30 years, 17 years in Bedford, and 17 years in Mid Bedfordshire.
  • I went to Putnoe Lower and Woodside Middle School, and then got a scholarship at Bedford Modern School, through a Government Assisted Place.
  • I would love to become a Labour PPC in this area if a vacancy exists.
  • I have withdrawn from standing as a Mayoral candidate for Bedford, and I wish Michelle Harris well.
  • I have also withdrawn from standing in Putnoe Ward, in Bedford Borough.
  • I hope to stand as a candidate in Ampthill ward, in Central Bedfordshire, in May 2011, to allow Labour Voters to vote for their preferred party. In the past there has often not been a Labour candidate, and there has been little or no campaigning.
  • With regret although I gained good experience, I stood as an Independent Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in 2005 in a largely unwinnable seat against Nadine Dorries (12,000 majority- 2005), as I believed passionately in bringing real change, opportunity and better facilities to our area. I only secured 301 votes.
  • In 2009, when I was unemployed for 9 months and hardly saw anyone day to day except from the Job Centre every two weeks, and occasional job interview, I was asked to stand as a resident in Maulden and Houghton Conquest, for the Green Party, again against incumbent Tories. I was invited by Ben Foley, someone I met in 2005 on election night. I have never belonged to the Greens but like most parents and other like minded people the "Green Agenda" is now mainstream and these have been adopted whole heartedly by the Labour Party. That time I secured 341 votes as I offered "to work for no councillor fees", largely in the aftermath of the expenses scandal.
  • I have decided to seek to stand as a Labour candidate, as they are the only party that can reverse the damage being done by the Con Dem Government. The cuts are too deep and too fast.
  • Much change has been promised over the last 30 years- the High Street is still in decline, the Bus Station area needs urgent re-development and we still need a complete Western Bypass (finally approved March 2011) for Bedford to end the daily gridlock, which is enough to keep new businesses away.
  • Bring in free limited parking in the car parks, supported by local shops, based on spend like many supermarkets and department stores. Bedford needs to compete with the ever expanding Milton Keynes and the Luton Mall redevelopment.
  • Where are the new jobs to replace the closure over the years of Texas Instruments, Britannia Engineering, APE Allen, Crayola, Mentos. ?
